Maën Cignana Power Plant
The Maën Cignana hydroelectric power plant is located about 1,300 meters above sea level in the municipality of Valtournenche.
The imposing building, divided into two rooms (one of which is occasionally used for exhibitions and events), houses as many as two hydroelectric plants capable of producing renewable energy. The first refers to the Cignana diversion, which is capable of supplying 22 MW of power with a generator set with a flow rate of 3 m3/second and 828 m jump.
The second plant, on the other hand, refers to the Marmore diversion, with two generator sets and a capacity of 25.2 MW. The flow rate is 4.5 m3/second and the drop meters are 447.
During the refurbishing works, the diversion works of the Cignana jump were radically changed with the construction of a direct connection tunnel between the power plant and the dam, in which - in addition to the penstock - a funicular was also inserted to transport the personnel employed inside the dam and the necessary materials. The excavation of the tunnel also provided an environmental improvement by eliminating one of the two pipelines along the valley slope.
