Saint-Denis Wind Farm (Valle d'Aosta)

The Saint Denis wind farm is located at Puy de Saint-Evence in the municipality bearing the same name.

It consists of three V52-850KW type wind turbines (each with a rated power of 850 electric KW), with a total power plant capacity of 2.55 MW.
Each tower is 55 meters high, and the rotors, each consisting of three wind blades, are 52 m in diameter. The total weight of a wind turbine (steel tower, plus rotor, plus nacelle) is about 90 tons.

Based on the wind characteristics of the site, wind power generation of about 4,000 kWh/year total is expected.
The choice of location for the wind farm was based on the following considerations:

  • wind condition
  • other environmental characteristics such as the distance from population centres, the impossibility of using the land for other purposes because the land is mountainous and not suitable for any kind of cultivation,
  • relative proximity to the regional power distribution network

The average annual temperature at the site is 6°C. The plant operates in automated mode and is monitored, via radio link, by CVA's teleconduction station.
